True change for the next semester

Today I finished up the first semester of my year at the BI. I looked back and wondered what really has happened to me. I have some new friends, done some fun things, and learned a lot about the bible. What stood out to me, though, was the fact that I didn’t see very much change in my life. After pondering the problem for a while I came to the conclusion that one of God’s greatest goals is change for the better. He wants to change us and then He wants us to change other people and the world around us. Not simply surface change, (I have already done that since I have been here) but a true heart and mind change; a change of my goals into His goals and my desires into His desires.

With change on my mind, I looked over my first semester again. I actually can see some change, I feel that I am more selfless then I was. I also have a desire to learn more about God and to follow Him. These changes though, were done without my desire. Changes made simply by virtue of being in a Godly setting and reading the Word.

What great change I can expect to see in the next six months if I actually try to change! It is still a thing which only God can do, but now I actually feel myself longing to change. I want to be a man after God’s own heart; a man that is dependable and trustworthy. I want to be a man that God is proud of and of whom will be said “well done good and faithful servant”.

For true and great change to occur I think it is simply a matter of yielding myself to Him, all of my desires and dreams, longings and hopes, comfort and pleasures fully to Him. I think that as I draw close to Him then I will find that naturally what I want is what He wants also. The biggest hindrance to my change is me. The Lord must become great and I lesser. The life of a Christ follower is no easy thing, but the rewards and fulfillment make any adversity as nothing.
